Privacy Policy
Last updated: March 8, 2026
1. Overview
Web2Markdown ("we", "our", "the extension") is a Chrome browser extension that converts web pages to Markdown format. We are committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what data we collect, why, and how it is used.
2. Data We Do NOT Collect
We do not collect, store, or transmit:
- Browsing history or page content
- Personal identification information
- Cookies or tracking data
- Keystrokes or clipboard contents
3. Data We Collect
License Validation
If you purchase a Pro license, we store a randomly generated device identifier (no personal data) and your license key locally in Chrome storage. This identifier is sent to our license server solely to validate your subscription status.
Extension Settings
Your extension preferences (e.g., YAML frontmatter templates, export options) are stored locally in Chrome's sync storage. This data syncs across your Chrome devices via your Google account and is not accessible to us.
4. Third-Party Services
Pro license purchases are processed by Lemon Squeezy. Their privacy policy governs payment data. We receive only the license key status — no payment card information.
5. Permissions
The extension requests only the permissions necessary to function:
- activeTab — Read the current page to convert it to Markdown
- contextMenus — Add a right-click option for selection export
- storage — Save your settings and license locally
- clipboardWrite — Copy exported Markdown to clipboard
6. Data Retention
All data is stored locally in your browser. Uninstalling the extension removes all locally stored data. License validation records on our server are deleted upon license cancellation or upon request.
7. Children's Privacy
Web2Markdown is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect any information from children.
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated date. Continued use of the extension constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
